Sometimes it doesn’t make sense on the surface.
Someone isn’t rude. They’re not doing anything obvious. They might even be smiling, polite, and saying the right things.
But after being around them… you feel tired. Heavy. Off. Like something got taken out of you.
That feeling is real.
It’s not always what people do — it’s how they feel to your system
You’re not just reacting to words.
You’re reacting to energy, tone, pressure, and intention.
Some people feel:
- calm and grounding
- light and easy
- natural to be around
And others feel:
- tense without reason
- like you have to “perform”
- like you can’t fully relax
- like your energy drops after talking
Your body notices this before your mind does.
This is why you can’t always “explain” it
You might say:
- “They’re nice though”
- “Nothing bad happened”
- “Maybe I’m just tired”
But your system is picking up something deeper than behaviour.
It’s responding to how safe, open, or draining the connection feels.
Some people pull energy without realizing it
Not always on purpose.
Some people:
- talk in a very heavy emotional way
- need constant reassurance
- dominate the conversation
- or unconsciously create tension in the room
After interacting with them, you feel like you’ve done emotional work without agreeing to it.
And some people simply don’t match your system
This part is important.
Not everyone is meant to be in your close space.
Some connections are:
- short-term
- surface-level
- or only meant for certain contexts
Trying to force closeness where your body says “no” is usually what creates burnout.
Your body is the best filter you have
You don’t need to overthink it.
Pay attention to:
- Do you feel lighter or heavier after seeing them?
- Do you feel more clear or more confused?
- Do you feel like yourself, or like you shrink a bit?
Your body answers honestly, even when your mind tries to be polite.
What to do about it
You don’t always need a big confrontation or explanation.
Sometimes it’s just:
- less access to you
- shorter conversations
- more space between interactions
- trusting your first feeling and not overriding it
You can be kind without being constantly available.
The main point
You’re allowed to notice how people make you feel.
And you’re allowed to act on that — even if you can’t fully explain it.
Because your energy always tells the truth before your words do.
